CILB Meetings and the Fear That Goes With

by Robin / Wednesday, 19 April 2017 / Published in All

Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board Meetings are serious business, however, if properly prepared, you go in, attest to the information in your application, tell the truth and you should be fine –  unless you are trying to get one by on the Board and that usually doesn’t go well.

When the Agenda for a Board Meeting is published (about 2 weeks prior to the Board Meeting), the letters, emails and telemarketing goes wild and there are some companies out there using scare tactics to get you freaked out into giving them $2,800 (on average) to meet with you right before the board meeting because there is “no possible way you will get approved without help…”  Don’t just fall for these tactics-check out the people attempting to scare money out of you.  If you have something to hide, sure, hire someone…Its totally up to you-just do not blindly hand over thousands of dollars with vetting the company first.

This month, I had a client who texted me 3 days before his board meeting.  Am attorney convinced him that we did his entire application wrong, gave him bad information, and needed to get a continuance instead of going to the board.  I spent 3 days on the phone with this client calming him down and talked to him right up to the minute he walked into the Board Meeting.  He was up in front of the Board for less than 1 minute and got approved WITHOUT spending an extra $2800 and delaying his licensure for months.  He was relieved to have his license, but felt terrible about how he treated me based upon the scare tactics of another company who had ZERO prior knowledge about his application or experience.  He felt as if he were preyed upon by this company.  I told him that the important thing was that he had his license now and that was all that mattered.  Time to move onward and upward and get the negative experience behind him.

I do wish I was a fly on that attorney’s shoulder when he/she saw this person they nearly scared $2800 out of get approved in under one minute.
